Sloppy, boxing sentimental comedy-drama is based on the success of female boxing manager Jackie Kallen difficult rise to the top ( "loosely inspired" seems a better term). Kallen Meg Ryan plays with a street edge in and his voice is appropriate, but its outlandish costumes certainly belies the salary of a glorified secretary, and Tony Shalhoub embarrassed himself as a 'style Godfather' angle of the Mecca of boxing (he dresses and talks like John Gotti, but only appears having a customer). Charles Dutton directed, and his own performance as the veteran coach (another topic) is at least highly thought - ironically the best acting here. "Strings" is a lackluster film, produced and distributed as if nobody had a hope in hell that participate in it. The boxing scenes are slapdash, with Ryan right foot in the ring at a point to deliver a last-second PEP talk with Omar Epps, the kind of conspiratorial discourse that has More than dirt (why not just say, "win one for the Gipper?"). Omar rise to success is faster than a bad smell, which is quite what it Misfire leaves in its wake. * 1 / 2 ****

He says it is based on a true story, 'Against the ropes "is not as effective as other films of this genre. The story is not gripping, and even as a character who does not study. The script is pretty poor (and predictable) the characters are half baked, the dialogues are boring and has nothing new to offer. Cheryl Edwards hopes to understand what is happening, but we always question what the motivation of the characters were. Meg Ryan is very hot and it does the best he could with a poorly written character. Omar Epps is fine (two who suffers from a poorly written role). The relationship between the two characters is one of the most important elements of the plot (or should have been). However, this is hardly developed. One moment we see EPPs hugs Ryan character and the next we see him called a bitch and want to quit. It would have been much better this Against the Ropes Sport movie has been improved. The plot is very predictable and we know how it will end. There are so many plot holes and just too lacking in this film. Perhaps there was pressure to make this Against the Ropes movie at the time and the director decided to leave out some parts, probably a considerable part. On a positive note, the last boxing scene was shot well. 'Against the ropes "was very incomplete and it is a loss for the cast and crew who are otherwise known for its good work. For some reason I tried to enjoy the Against the Ropes Sport film ... but was not successful. It is not the worst Against the Ropes film everything and I think it's okay to watch once.
