This is a remake of a remake, but still packs a punch. I have seen the original "Rio Bravo" on several occasions, including when it first came out. It was masterfully done and one of the best films of the Duke of the 1950s. I saw John Carpenter's "Assault on Precinct 13" when he first arrived in 1976, and remembered as one of Carpenter's best films. Now we have another version with basically the same characters including drunk, originally played by Dean Martin, which is proven by the struggle for survival, and finally pass over. When I first heard the music of Christmas in the film, I took a moment to understand why the selection until Dean Martin, I realized I was the producer of an homage to the crooner of the action "Rio Bravo." This would be more fun for those who have not seen the originals. This remake follows the original to the point of ruin for some of the surprises. I will not go into detail on this, and then spoil the surprises for those who have not seen the originals. The story is there, the action is there, and the entertainment is there, especially for those who are looking for the first time.
The story has appeared many times over decades in the increasingly violent and less stylistic forms. John Wayne was both the most famous of which was "Rio Bravo" (1959). A seasoned veteran command has to lose a few cannons to fend off an invasion. John Carpenter did the rough style and "Assault on Precinct 13 (1976) before their historic horror" Halloween "(1978). Now we come to this 2005 remake. Directed by Jean-Francois Richet, Ethan Hawke is Jake Roenick pill-alcoholic appearing to be met by their troops on the last day in District 13 on New Year's Eve in Detroit. When a group of prisoners, including Bishop (Laurence Fishburne, Morpheus in the way) make a stop-over in District 13 due to a road accident, thugs in ski masks besiege him to seek the Bishop. Thinking fast, Roenick takes all, including policemen and prisoners to defend themselves from attack. This does not quite live up to its predecessors in a lot of ways. No real suspense, and often treads the line between fresh and cliché too often. A number of plot-twists are done well, but do little to lend any significance to the satisfaction. Oscar does not deserve the performers, but John Leguizamo does a good turn as a hot head junkie. 6 / 10
Now, before you criticize me, I've never seen the original version of John Carpenter in this movie. Being a big fan, I should see, and after watching this remake, I will definitely find the original to see if it is as good as this movie. I had a blast! New Year in Detroit, a cold winter morning as District 13 is preparing to close its doors and moved to a new building. There are only three people in the building on New Year's Eve, and as a storm approaches, a criminal being transported to a maximum security area off to the desert. There are only a few other people who want to get closer to the villain. Excellent and very interesting story, both Ethan Hawke and Laurence Fishbourne this measure over the edge. Some people may find the ultra-violent movie, but violence on the big screen never bothered me, so I enjoyed it very much! Definitely worth a look for action fans, and fans of the original that are curious. However, those who are disturbed by the violent images, wants to get away from this movie.
All items have been the bad cop and western generic rappers turned actors who have not quit ... what he did before they became rappers, shocking gore, and Brian Dennehy. If you have not discovered that the lunar Dennehy is the second sees it, take the phone, calling the Earth. Blood work in places such as the death of Maria Bello under used, but most is excessive. Do we need to see so many people of the bullet-riddled front? Laurence Fishburne is his self-rigidity, the change Fishburne and Gabriel Byrne have made this DivX film Assault on Precinct 13 much more interesting. Bynre Gabriel is at his best with the characters mixed. John Leguizamo, as in most of his films, plays John Leguizamo. Ethan Hawke and Drea de Matteo is the best of the bunch. Mexico's position between the police and the newly emphasized weapon offenders. An insult to Carpenter's original script and lackluster direction of a number.
This is what I expected the typical Hollywood demographic wants. I almost broke my DVD player trying to boot this terrible waste of time. He was atrocious, the premise of the story was unbelievable. Detroit was portrayed as a neighborhood where the streets are empty, no one walks the streets ... OK. Then the police station, which now has a handful of misfit cops (and always right "about to retire early," poly (Dennehy), unexpectedly allowed to manage a group of inmates, including a demented murderer of police in Really? In that case the phone line is cut (One of the main problems in police stations around the world), and of course everyone that jam with some mystic mobile device has not yet been invented. Then laser started following everyone from the windows that are supposed to represent a device for laser weapons the bad guys I guess, but ended up looking like a cheap Searchlight air show at the opening of another Curves for Women . Lasers point in a straight question! not like the whole place at Studio 54 in 1979! I can not even imagine Hawke get high enough to accept this script from the trash.
I am a big fan of the original Assault on Precinct 13. The ice cream scene haunts me to this day. I am now 33 and still remember to be horrified by it as a child. When I heard they were remaking it, I thought it would be good, but when I saw the movie, it is 100% is not the same movie. It is not a remake. It is a bad idea stolen. It was completely ruined. The cast, Maria Bello, Laurence Fishburne, Ethan Hawke, Gabriel Burne, John Leguizamo and Drea de Matteo are all great players, but still can not save this movie. It was bad. Even the setting was completely opposite. And how in hell was not there a warning that a war in next door? Why not help first appear? Stupid. Nonsense.
This is another example of Hollywood tripe! It is clear that even the weakest mind that these players are the rolls for money. Full of ridiculous lines, and the unlikely scenario more realistic characters that boggles the mind! Unfortunately, the major studios continue to produce this kind of tripe, and the only way they can be convinced of the error of their ways is if people stop paying money to see these masterpieces made! I am so glad that I did not throw money at a good theater to see this garbage, and will certainly be wary of anything that any of these players in the future.
