Although the film: In the Valley of Elah is a man of few words, Jones is heartbreaking performance, and to continue in their quest to find her missing son. seems that man has many secrets, having a poor relationship with his wife and never touched until the last third. acts almost like an automaton when he hears about the disappearance of his son. perhaps can not believe he's lost two sons in battle or motive of the killing, but performance is unbearably intense and Jones has delivered a nearly perfect performance. with strong support from Theron, and Patrick Sarandon, script writing is fluid, and a In the Valley of Elah Mystery that could have been considered very political and anti-war, it is through a beautiful serene piece of cinema. worth watching just for Jones.

If there is any justice in the world of film, Tommy Lee Jones should take home the Oscar for Best Actor for his work in this film, clearly his best performance ever. Combined with No Country for Old Men, Tommy Lee Jones has had an incredible year, and seems to be finally hitting a step back after years of dreck U.S. Marshals and as man of the house. Charlize Theron is also in fine form once again a challenge, less glamorous role and pulling him with impressive dedication. Even Paul Haggis, who has always been greatly valued as a writer and director, does a decent job of bringing the heart and believability to the story. If the In the Valley of Elah Mystery has a big problem is its screenplay, which is often clunky and obvious. However, it seems to be getting better (in general) and its distribution rises above the material provided that the script thuds.
