Although I would not classify "A Pocketfull rye" as a best of Agatha Christie stories, which still retains its interest, there is a variation on the "ABC Murders" theme (the murderer of the underground and a murder that only important for him among a series of murders seemingly linked) and a very clever solution to the problem of "murder through long distance! I must admit that my favorite part of this movie: Pocket Full of Rye, A is by far Mary Selina Cadell as Dove, efficient housekeeper. Intelligent, witty, observant - that is the thinking man's ideal wife. I loved the scene where she admits to some "minor discrepancies in the accounting house! I just wish I had more to do in the second half. Second favorite is Fabia Drake as Miss Henderson, who has some of the best lines: "I've always been very peculiar" and "The journey between the President and evil is but a step." And third favorite is Tom Wilkinson as Inspector Neel, a nice, level head is faster than the others to appreciate the value of the contributions of the Miss Marple of some slack Inspector! (***)
Do this: read the Marple mysteries. This is a stunning collection of experiments with form. The idea in the minds of Christie is one of the competing forces, competing realities. The narrator, reader and detective of conspiring to make of these competing realities dominate. Their game is based on the rules of the genre. She bends, twists its influence. Each story has one of those rules and goofs with him. But everything depends on the rules. Watching these films TeeVee Marple. Not a one of them respects the rules. In the books, working the puzzle. But TeeVee viewers only want to work on the screen and do not care to have the tracks properly. It is an outrage to anyone whose mind is still alive. The only interesting feature is the gold digger Boff. BBC, the bread and butter is expensive and space, and pay special attention to the faces. Engineering face in this crowd is Adele, what is now called the look Christina Ricci. Ted's Evaluation - 1 of 3: You can find something better to do with this part of his life.
Joan Hickson Jane Marple was excellent and is definitely one of the best works of Agatha Christie TV A POCKET FULL OF RYE. The ingenious layout uses a lullaby (one of Christie's favorite ways of linking a complex set of tracks on a murder), and gives a good assortment of suspicious characters a perfect opportunity for the kind of red herrings. The mystery begins as soon as Rex Fortescue dies. He is rich, unpleasant man who has a fortune tied to some nasty business in your past, and enemies enough to make everyone a likely suspect. Crisply acted and played in elegant fashion by a variety of British support for the reliable British players, which keeps you interested in solving the crime along with the inspector of perplexity, which do not match for Miss Marple. Hickson is perfectly cast as the wise old woman and makes the character seem as if Christie had in mind for the role.
This is one of my favorites of the series of Miss Marple Hickson. Miss Marple was alerted around the yew Lodge by former maid, Gladys, but at the time it gets there, there have been three murders including Gladys and herself! The lullaby of the title is largely irrelevant, but the story is well plotted and satisfactory conclusion. I do not feel enough is made of the plight of the pathetic Gladys - the book makes this much more effectively and really just hate the murderer, but also as a result of that is pretty good. The cast is excellent. Tom Wilkinson is one of the best detectives and accompanying shifts are Dorning Stacy airhead as second wife, Rachel Bell as the child and Jennifer Peter Davison as charming Lance. Miss Marple is a relative in the formidable spirit of Miss Henderson Fabia Drake. Although my favorite is that of Mary Selina Cadell Dove - just like your photo in the book! A mid-range entry of satisfaction.
Now available on DVD from the BBC, this episode of Miss Marple is unfortunately mired in complete darkness from beginning to end, it is sometimes very difficult to see who is actually on the screen. Perhaps this is the intention of adding to the atmosphere of the house where the action takes place and, indeed, the houses in the duel that had their curtains drawn at the time, but they need all the lights were turned off too? Despite a fairly faithful adaptation of the book, one of the latest Agatha Christie novel, there is a large amount of detection or thought process on site and when presented with the murderer, my reaction was simply "oh . As you can see, some good principles de'50 's details.
Probably the least interesting part of BBC TV adaptations, and one of the few available on DVD for some reason. The only really fun parts come from the formidable actress elderly Fabia Drake, who plays "Miss Henderson." She wanders around the condemnation of the comments from Stern, the best comes when the young blonde ditzy wife makes a comment about going to the Clubhouse (located at a nearby golf course as I recall). Miss Henderson has a strong smell, and mutters "Club! .... Brothel!" that always leaves me in stitches. Otherwise its not that memorable, I can not remember if the book is very interesting to begin with. Its fun to see Tom Wilkinson in a minor role.
