Five months after the birth of his son, Mel Coplin remains unable to name the child until he has met his own biological parents and discovered who he 'really is.' The quartet sets out in search of Mel's real parents, with tensions growing because of the sexual chemistry lacking between Mel and Nancy and growing between Mel and Tina.

One of the best comedies of our time. Published 10 years ago this riot of a DVD movie Flirting with Disaster that will go down in history as one of the funniest movies ever. Ben Stiller plays his best part in this. Téa Leoni is great. Lilly Tomlin and Alan Alda was hilarious. And Patricia Arquette is beautiful as always. This Flirting with Disaster movie builds and builds until the madness reaches its peak during the last 15 minutes. Put me in the top 10 funniest movies ever, without any qualms. I'm not sure why this DVD film Flirting with Disaster is so overlooked. I think we had a very low budget and receives no publicity. It is a hidden jewel of insurance. If you do not see that you're losing.

FLIRTING WITH DISASTER (1996) **** Ben Stiller, Patricia Arquette, Téa Leoni, Alan Alda, Mary Tyler Moore, George Segal, Lily Tomlin, Richard Jenkins, Josh Brolin. Hilarious and sharp satire about an evil young man (in a memorable turn Stiller) looking for their identity to try to trace their biological parents while alienating his lovely wife and neglected (delicious Arquette) and Leoni (simply wonderful ) as its agent for adoption. Fine cast (especially in a inconoclastic Moore put in his image) and Alda (ditto). Subversive good, clean fun and seriously dysfunctional family values (thank God!) Filmmaker David O. Russell beat the Second Jinx (in his second turn at the helm).

I am surprised that this DVD film Flirting with Disaster is not in the IMDb Top 250. I rented this years ago when it was about video, and is the only Flirting with Disaster Comedy film where I've rented rewinding and immediately saw the whole thing again. Everything works. The cast is perfect, the writing is perfect. Most comedies are lucky enough to be funny - Flirting works as an incisive history of a marriage is going through a tuff patch - could have been a great drama - and as Screwball comedy. Is there another Flirting with Disaster Comedy film that does that? I can not think of one. This is a modern classic. It's awesome. Is unique. 20 years from now, nobody remembers Forget Sarah Marshall? I liked that movie, but 20 years from now will be lucky to be a footnote. Flirting will be remembered and watched. Trust me. Raising the babies was a success upon release. But it is a classic that endures, in Flirting. One day it will be in the top 250. Time usually corrects.
