In February, 1945, one of the fiercest battles of the Pacific theater of World War II occurs on the tiny island of Iwo Jima. Thousands of Marines attack the stronghold maintained by thousands of Japanese, and the slaughter on both sides is horrific. Early in the battle, an American flag is raised atop the high point, Mount Suribachi, and a photograph of the raising becomes an American cause celebre. As a powerful inspiration to war-sick Americans, the photo becomes a symbol of the Allied cause. The three surviving flag raisers, Rene Gagnon, John Bradley, and Ira Hayes, are whisked back to civilization to help raise funds for the war effort. But the accolades for heroism heaped upon the three men are at odds with their own personal realizations that thousands of real heroes lie dead on Iwo Jima, and that their own contributions to the fight are only symbolic and not deserving of the singling out they are experiencing. Each of the three must come to terms with the honors, exploitation, and grief that they face simply for being in a photograph.

I find it difficult not to feel robbed after seeing this movie. I think any story of the Marines from the U.S. at Iwo Jima or any of a series of battles in the Pacific such as Wake Island to be fascinating and convincing. The soldiers who fought and lead were extraordinary in what was then seen and suffered. However, the flags of our fathers, I do not capture any of that on the screen. The story was too disjointed. A flashback of the characters having flashbacks flashbacks was confusing at best. There was no flow or development of the story. If there is any issue that seemed to WonderCuts. I felt there was absolutely no character development. Were two-dimensional at first, and after more than two hours of almost no meaningful dialogue could not care less about them. Maybe this is the risk of being too close to the historical text. Most of this could point to bad film-making and call it a night. What I personally find offensive is the Flags of Our Fathers Drama film for artificial hard sell to the public emotionally involved. Flags of the parents, or possibly every cliché wrapped in hero-worship and racism parenting guilty. The hooks are as subtle as a wrecking ball. Schindlers List and Saving Private Ryan did well. Flags of Our Fathers did not.
Flags of Our Fathers (2006) *** 1 / 2 Ryan Phillippe, Jesse Bradford, Adam Beach, John Benjamin Hickey, John Slattery, Barry Pepper, Jamie Bell, Paul Walker, Robert Patrick, Neal McDonough, Melanie Lynskey, Thomas McCarthy, Chris Bauer, Judith Ivey, Myra Turley, Joseph Cross, Benjamin Walker, George Grizzard, Harve Presnell, George Hearn, Len Cariou, Beth Grant, Connie Ray, Ann Dowd, David Patrick Kelly, Jon Polito, Ned Eisenberg, Gordon Clapp, Tom Verica, David Clennon, David Rasche, Tom Mason. Epic drama about World War heroes of Iwo Jima - specifically the men who raised the American flag captured at sea by iconic shape Associated Press - providing a big boost in the war effort back home to Although the facts established by the way, the "heroes" against their own demons. Bach performed particularly well as the tormented, alcoholic Ira Hayes, a Native American who never recovered fully to civilian life. Based on James Bradley and Ron Powers extensive book adaptation of the screenplay by William Broyles Jr. and Paul Haggis occasionally lurches in flashback sequences unequally but the description is performed consistently by the director Clint Eastwood, despite the pace logily final act, the DVD film Flags of Our Fathers definitely describes the horrors of the battle sequences in the signature "Saving Private Ryan" with the landowner as an exceptional work by the editor Joel Cox - a veteran Eastwood - expert photography Tom Stern. Executive produced by Steven Spielberg.
I do not think this is a typical Eastwood film, this is not like any of his previous films, this is not an Unforgiven, this is a documentary. There is no real action. In a battle that killed 21,000 Japanese who suggested that it might be more than 5 scenes of battle with a Japanese soldier, but I do not think he is saving all the scenes from the upcoming film: Flags of Our Fathers he is making the sign of Japanese battle view. This film: Flags of Our Fathers was numbingly boring, the flashbacks were exaggerated and misleading, much of the script is a voice over, the film: Flags of Our Fathers seemed to think that persisted over parts of the body was the way in showing the bad side of the war, the most memorable line was "do not serve your kind here", which is not even a DivX Movie Flags of Our Fathers is an old cliché in the movie.
Clint Eastwood and Paul Haggis, finally, in my opinion, made up for the emotions and contributed a little "Million Dollar Baby." Eastwood Flags of Our Fathers Drama of the last three appear to be less self-indulgent and based more on the need for progression in the United States. Using art to cause sensitization has been a technique of the whole story, but Eastwood is taking a point at a time in a sequence of heart-rending film. The concept and definition of the word "hero" is questioned and referred to in this war epic. And in recent times, seems appropriate since the media and the general public is the term thrown around too easily after 9 / 11. The shooting, in general, were somewhat less than brilliant, there is some consistency in the linear camera view that puts an entire thread on one film: Flags of Our Fathers (without it) can be effective no rhythm. And, while P. Ryan was extremely impressive, someone had to ask Paul Walker kindly to leave the big screen and stick to modeling.
