A group of Vietnam War veterans re-unite to rescue one of their own left behind and taken prisoner by the Vietnamese. Gene Hackman plays Colonel Rhodes, a frustrated veteran who rounds up a gang of men may be more difficult to find, all for an invasion of a Vietnamese POW camp where her son is believed to still captive. Seem exaggerated plot is not as exaggerated as you might think, while the cast is big, solid, credible and of all actions, including Patrick Swayze, Fred Ward and Randall "Tex" Cobb. Includes a high-energy action filled climax. Recommended for fans of gritty war drama. Furthermore, it is always interesting to see a ballet by Tex Cobb improvisation.

First is to recognize that this Uncommon Valor film has a "male" was 80s/Reagan view of the war. Most of the Vietnamese characters are cannon fodder whose deaths have little or no impact, while America was granted to the tragic or glorious dead. But if you can tolerate, ignore or (to be fair) to enjoy this aspect of the DVD movie Uncommon Valor is a very moving to see people dealing with the idea of friends and family and never return home or be forced to live as prisoners of war. This is the main thing that separates this from other fantasies of rescue prisoners of war (with some, albeit modest, degree of realism). The most moving scene is the beginning of the film, with Hackman think about her son, but there are also some very emotional moments at the end of the film. "Uncommon Valor" is also worth seeing for a memorable cast including Patrick Swayze first and best performances. Hackman is, as always, excellent.
