| I have seen this expecting nothing, but man was I lucky to stumble into this hell of a movie. Yes there is a simplicity to the script and I felt as if I could have been better. The story might have also been extended to give a shot to the whole concept. But no matter, because the fight scenes just blew me away. I've seen tons of martial arts movies that revolve around the effects of wire, but it just really impressed me. I suppose that the action just seemed more natural in the DVD film Dragon Tiger Gate or not in their cables. The actors did a great job with the fight sequences. Think Ong bak kung fu hustle and mixed. The actors fit their roles and the production of amazing stunts, fights, action, etc. Donnie Yen is always impressive, and here he is exceptional. Kudos to the choreography too. Actually one of the most impressive of its kind for me, personally, up there with fear, fist of legend, ong bak, shinobi (i love this film), etc. .. I recommend this to action and martial arts enthusiasts. Lose .. 10/10 just because I love this theme and how it was done. |
| For me personally, this DVD movie Dragon Tiger Gate is one of the best Modern Martial Arts Flick Hong Kong today! The guy who I have been waiting much to see! As a long time fan of Donnie Yen (I'm a fan from the moment I saw his first Dragon Tiger Gate Action movie drunken Tai Chi, a loooong time ago), I believe he has finally given the opportunity to show his true talent, like the -- and-coming director's action today. Donnie Yen has arrived! The fight choreography is very unique and fresh thinking, sometimes surprising. Combined with wire work limited, stylized movements complicated (especially Donnie Yen) and highly complementary computer-generated special effects, fight scenes will blow your mind away. Not to mention the addition of the earth shaking 5.1 Dolby Digital Sound Effects. You have to see and experience for yourself to know what I mean. Story wise, LONG HU MEN (Dragon Tiger Gate) offers is true to the nature of comic books on the history of Good vs Evil, told in surprisingly imagined Hong Kong Triad / Martial Underworld. The picture is also quite unique. In some scenes felt like an imaginary world, others as a beautiful painting old days of Hong Kong, but in another is a realistic, true to the colors of the world today. I may be biased, so go see for yourself. |
| I had been waiting for Dragon Tiger Gate, since even before its theatrical release in Asia. Same director (Wilson Yip) and action choreographer (Donnie Yen) and Sha Po Lang (aka Killzone VIDEOSTORE in its walls), and also, once again, co-starring Donnie Yen. It also stars Shawn Yue (not) and Nicholas Tse, who have assured me on numerous occasions by my friend Kim is an uber-hottie. This was surely just a straight action Dragon Tiger Gate movie with visual effects to emphasize the freshness factor. I like the occasional flashy action movie, and actually got really into this, and all the characters. Instead of saying much about the plot, let's say that 2 of the 3 brothers who is not seen in a long time, and equipment with a new friend to kick some bad ass. Not for those of you who hate realistic action. Although I always enjoy watching Donnie Yen kicking a guy so hard that flies 20 feet and back through a wall. Dragon Tiger Gate had nominations this year in Hong Kong Film Awards for the action choreography and visual effects. |
